Every three years adult volunteers are required to renew modules of their training, to ensure they are up to date with the latest information to ensure we are keeping everyone safe whilst Scouting. Below are the modules and how they are renewed:
Members are required to complete the approved Scouting specific safeguarding training at least every three years. This module provides the information that all adults in Scouting need to know to keep young people and adults safe. It covers the Safeguarding Policy, the Young People First Safeguarding Card Code of Practice (Yellow Card), how to recognise abuse, concerns and how to make Scouts safe.
Members are required to complete Scouting specific safety training at least every three years. It covers the Safety Policy, how to assess and manage risk, role of leader in charge, emergency, incident and near miss procedures and how to access safety resources and guidance for the safe management of activities.
All adults in Scouting holding a Leader, Manager or Supporter appointment are also required to hold a current First Aid certificate. While everyone should always maintain their qualification, the First Aid certificate must be valid at the issue of the Wood Badge and for appointment renewal. This should be monitored by their line manager at the point of appointment review, at least every three years. The minimum standard for First Aid Training within The Scouts is First Response. This will fulfil the requirements for appointment renewal. We’ve teamed up with Hampshire Scouts to offer a three-element training process for First Response training which need to be completed in the order shown below. It involves completing two online theory sessions and then a practical face-to-face session.
Module 10A Part One (E-learning)
1. Online e-learning* (click to start E-learning), individual online learning that can be completed at a convenient time.
*This must be completed before attending the Virtual First Aid course
Module 10A Part Two (Virtual training)
2. Virtual first aid course (click to book), a scheduled online seminar run by First Aid trainers which builds on the knowledge gained from the E-learning
Module 10B Part Three (Face to face practical First Aid)
3. Face to face practical (click to book), demonstrating that we understand the recovery position and CPR.
Remember to send in your External or online completion certificates into the County Administrator to validate your competition and for your Compass record to be updated.
